The Bulgarian champions need to pick up points in their UEFA Europa League campaign in Group G, and they will be aiming for their first victory in the competition on November 5 2009, when they entertain Red Bull on home turf.
Both sides met for the first time in the corresponding fixture on October 22, with the Bulgarians registering yet another away defeat to an Austrian side in their club history, having lost to FK Austria Wien and SK Sturm Graz in the past.
Red Bull beat the Blues 1-0, leaving them at the bottom of the group with zero points from three outings. This will only add to the frustration of the Bulgarian champions, who have conceded defeats in their last four UEFA club competition group-stage home games; worse still, Levski were unable to score a goal in thee matches, their goal difference standing at 0-6.
For Dnevnik daily on November 4, the interim head coach of the Blues Antony Zdravkov said that he will try to "tactically outsmart his Austrian opposition on the day".
But the harsh reality is that Levski are plagued by problems from top to bottom, and this being only the second European clash since the sacking of Serbian coach Ratko Dostanic in the wake of a 1-0 away defeat by Beroe Stara Zagora on October 18, it is difficult to visualise just how the Bulgarian champions will manage a miraculous recovery in Europe.
The next fixture in Group G for Levski Sofia is at home against Spanish side Villarreal CF, while Red Bull will play at home against SS Lazio.
Reports in British media have resumed speculating that the Manchester City and Bulgaria winger Martin Petrov is poised to leave the Eastlands en route to White Hart Lane.
