Two policemen and one Defence Ministry employee were among a group of people arrested on suspicion of stealing motor vehicles in Sofia, Bulgarian BTA news agency said on November 3 2009.

Sofia city prosecutor Nikolai Kokinov told Focus news agency that the group was arrested while driving a stolen motor vehicle in Sofia. "We have been pursuing this group for some time now," Kokinov told Focus.

Bulgarian-language Dnevnik daily also quoted Kokinov as saying that the stolen BMW, in which the group was driving, was owned by the Finance Ministry.

The criminal group's routine was to steal the vehicles and subsequently escort them with a vehicle driven by the Defence Ministry employee so that they could travel safely without police checks.

The vehicles were then stored in garages around Sofia where another group prepared them for sale with new registration numbers.

Spot on Blighty.

You have to feel sorry for the normal citizens of this country. Will this scenario change in the near future? I very much doubt it. The EU must be regretting welcoming such a corrupt country into its family.

Bulgarian policemen involved in crime I can't believe it. Next someone will be telling us that judges are involved in crime as well.

This wonderful country deserves so much better.
