Several Bulgarian schools sealed off due to swine flu outbreak

Swine flu outbreak has forced the authorities in Tryavna, a town in the central Balkan Mountain Range, near Gabrovo, to close until the end of the week, the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) reported on October 28 2009.

A total of four establishments were ordered shut by the Tryavna municipality, on the advice of the Regional Inspectorate for Public Health Prevention and Control (RIOKOZ).

Initially, the authorities had decided to close the schools until October 30 2009. All students will be examined for high fever,  respiratory diseases and other symptoms associated with the strain. Authorities have not yet disclosed the total number of infected children and/or staff.

Meanwhile, a seasonal flu emergency "holiday" was declared in the mathematics secondary school in the town of Yambol, Atanas Radev, which will last until November 3.  More than 250 students at the establishment were diagnosed as having the symptoms, whereas more than 100 reported sick and remained home, the BNT said.
