Bulgaria’s Regional Development Minister Rossen Plevneliev said certain businessmen had attempted to bribe him and that he had subsequently contacted Prime Minister Boiko Borissov to inform him of the incident, as well as the State Agency for National Security (SANS), Dnevnik daily said on October 26 2009.

"Two to three businessmen came up to me and offered me bribes. I contacted Borissov and SANS," he was quoted as saying by Bulgarian National Television, (BNT).

He has not disclosed the identity of the businessmen concerned. Plevneliev added that three directors from the Road Agency are also to face charges because of contract violations.

Meanwhile, procurement procedures for the public tenders of the 32 km section Stara Zagora – Nova Zagora  of the Trakia Motorway will now be launched in mid-November, later than planned because documentation for the project is yet to be finalised, according to Plevneliev.

Initially, procedures were supposed to be ready by mid-September, then they were postponed until the end of the month, then later still by mid-October, then to the end of October. Now, finally, documents are supposed to be formulated by mid-November, Dnevnik reported.

According to Plevneliev, construction work on this particular section of the motorway is scheduled to begin in March 2010.
