The English Angle: Party pooper

Fri, Oct 23 2009 09:58 CET 3428 Views 48 Comments
The establishment’s attacks on the British National Party (BNP) in the UK all miss the point. Of course, it serves the main parties’ interests to concentrate on the BNP because it distracts from their own failings.

The BNP party may be a racist party – that is undeniable because its constitution specifically bars minorities from joining. And it certainly has some unpleasant characters in it.

But anybody who seriously believes that the BNP is one of the greatest evils facing the UK at the moment is either blinded by political correctness or stupid. Is the BNP more dangerous than the fanatical Muslim extremists who heckled Geert Wilders on his recent visit with placards calling for Sharia law? Or those who blew up London in 2005?

Is the BNP more of a threat than the feral scum who ruin the lives of people living on run-down estates? Are we really saying that all BNP supporters are would-be stormtroopers about to throw Muslims and Jews out of the country? That’s a convenient way to ignore a lot of people’s grievances.

In fact, the establishment’s failings have created rising support for the BNP. No doubt, panellists on BBC’s Question Time will preach "tolerance" and "diversity" when they appear on the programme alongside BNP leader Nick Griffin. In particular, expect an onslaught of self-righteous indignation and huffing and puffing from former home secretary Jack Straw.

This from the man whose first action in 1997 was to tell the police they were "institutionally racist" and so contributed more to the lawlessness in our inner cities than any other politician. A man whose sole concern at the home office lay with massaging statistics and manipulating favourable media coverage. How do I know? I was there. Not that Straw is the only example of this. You only have to read Alastair Campbell’s diaries to see that New Labour’s only concern lay with spin.

The main parties won’t succeed in distracting people from their own failings. Labour politicians spent most of their first years in power rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous, ignoring the anti-social behaviour that blights the lives of people up and down the country.

Their failure to crack down on Muslim extremism has made the UK a breeding ground for terrorism. Conservative politicians, on the other hand, believe that the measure of a man’s life can be measured purely in material terms. Their decisions in the 1980s propagated mindless greed and social dislocation.

In such times it’s natural that a party like the BNP would grow in support. That does not mean I support it, anymore than one supports vigilantism or the violent actions of animal rights protesters trying to prevent some helpless animal from being tortured. But I understand why people do. My own solution is simply to abstain from voting in the UK and do so in such large numbers that the main parties get the message. A plague on both your houses!

Anonymous BRIAN Wed, Nov 18 2009 14:25 CET

Listen up wonderful life. Koran is crap. Keep it for yourself in your own country. We have survived millions of years on our own without outside interference from people like you. Just all go away before you feel the real onslaught of this country.

Anonymous Progressive Lover Sun, Nov 08 2009 04:24 CET

You have to Freedom to love whoever you desire so hardly "ethnic termination under a cloak of feel good 'progressive' rhetoric". The BNP repressive policies would stop women working, sleeping with whom they want, no longer jobs on merit but whiose face fits reagrdless of ability, no free trade but protectionism- Patriots you're having a laugh here more like 5th columnists. These BNP traitors hate their country so much they create trouble and civil strife.

English gotta wise up...Miliband, Bliar, Harman et al REAL long term plan is the physical extermination of the English people...

bnp just a Mi5 put up job, dont' be fooled by super cretin Nicky G....whole point on BNP is to demonize legitamate wishes of English people while Gordo's city cronies steal trillions..QE anyone?

Anonymous Man Enough! Sat, Nov 07 2009 04:30 CET

You should look up women rights as interpreted by the BNP-"I some times feel i have no rights in my own country with being a white hetrosexual female."
Their plans for women would be for all women to stay at home chained to the kitchen sink and whose only role in life would be to procreate. No doubt they would close PC institutions such as women's refuges, rape crisis centres and abolish equal opportunities for women. Women in their mind are taking men's jobs- you really would have to make this stuff up.

Your kids will have an in depth knowledge of the world- the best start in life-they will be able travel and interact with confidence.

Anonymous Wonderful Life Wed, Nov 04 2009 23:11 CET

Yeah sure talk amongst yourselves- your kids had to learn (the Koran) - I am sure your children learn about the entire world's major religious beliefs- Christianity, Hindu, Buddhism, Jewish, Sikh- what's your problem.
Fear and ignorance are unlikely to improve our country.

Anonymous BRIAN Wed, Nov 04 2009 18:53 CET

Well said Dave. If anyone of my children had to learn the Koran they would instantly be removed from school. How dare they inflict their views on us. we are two different cultures, we are not interested.GET IT.

Anonymous Dave Mon, Nov 02 2009 17:09 CET

Your nephew had to learn the Koran???????????????????????
wow just wow.
It going to have to be BNP for me simpy because i actually believe that they are the only ones who will listen to the people of britain. All the other parties are simply upperty about our views and they feel it easier to call us racist. You can call me racist when i go to another country and demand their benefits, their health care, take a free car, free clothes, free houses, free fones, claim benefits for children i may have in other countries etc etc. [...]

You must have had a look at FTSE top 100 Chief Executives, previous PM's of Great Britain,Lord Chancellors, High Court judges, top levels of the judiciary, finance and the city- "preferential treatment for coloureds." There is no blind as those who can't see.

Anonymous Individual Freedom Fri, Oct 30 2009 02:41 CET

You obviously attribute your own prejudices onto the wider population 'you' may be afriad we are most certainly not afraid.

I am a patriotic Bristish person who loves the country, it's people and feel that country's economic future is best served by having an open outward looking government. One that seizes the business and trade opportunities available on the global stage. With regard to gabriel Hershman saying the BNP is rascist since it doees not admit minorities, then I suppose using his logic, that the umpteen organisations e.g. those organisations for black policemen only are rascist also ?

Anonymous Tony Sun, Oct 25 2009 14:47 CET

ref Griffin on Question Time - The whole thing was designed to 'stitch up' Griffin - the news clips before and after the programmed was aired made this obvious.

To start with Dimbo said they have no previous knowledge of the questions - yeah I bet - Straw had notes to refer to for the very first response to the very first question.
Dimbo continually steered the conversation to issues of race, as did numerous members of the audience, and Griffin ws not allowed to answer.
A pertinent question about EU membership [...]

Read the full comment was ignored by Dimbo who steered to conversation back again to the holocaust.

Warsi continued to do little but hurl insults ie 'disgusting', 'fascism', 'nazi', 'Hitler as a hero' etc - and called Griffin'deceptive'. How she became a baroness is beyond me - she hasnt even been democratically elected.

As for comments by Greer - do invite Sooty next time instead - even a glove puppet could make more intelligent contribution than she did.

Interesting to note the only pertinent comment about immigration - ie' why are we letting in thousands when we already have millions of unemployed,' was ignored - that question was posed by a white Englishman of course...

Question time has been devalued, and the BBC exposed for showing it has a political agenda - and they call Griffin a fascist - that 's enough to make a cat laugh!

The three main parties have stopped fighting each other(for now) they are ganging up on the BNP because they are afraid they wont be able to get thier noses in the trough. As far as I am concerned anyone is welcome to come to England. I care not about colour creed or religion, BUT they should live under OUR laws and be an asset to our communites, not take away our freedoms which is what our forefathers fought for. A very sad day if we allow any part if sharia law in England. Maybe if our mps were not mostly from immigrant families they would hold dear our love of Engand.

Frank - I'm afraid that, as a UK resident aged 68, I have often heard the remark "going to Europe". It's also still used quite a lot in anti-EU UK politics, and I don't just mean UKIP or the BNP.

Anonymous Frank Sat, Oct 24 2009 11:25 CET

Re Jon Mills comment I consider myself to be well travelled and at sixty plus years old I have never heard anyone say they are "going to Europe"apart from this I agree with most of the article

Anonymous howard wadsworth Sat, Oct 24 2009 01:26 CET

I agree with the statement by Gabriel, I would certainly vote for the BNP to show the major parties that we have had enough of foreigners taking over our country. When you visit a town like Leamington Spa and see the large temple built near the city centre then you realisle just how far things have gone. roll on the next general election. Also it appeared to me that the audience on Question time did not represent the population mix of this country

Anonymous D. Shackleton Fri, Oct 23 2009 22:31 CET

Anonymous Jon Mills Fri, Oct 23 2009 20:27 CET

The source of the immigration issue is deep in the mindset of the average british citizen. Simply put, they believe ALL people from across the channel are foreign. The UK has never - and probably will never, accept being part of Europe. Even in general conversation the british will say "I am going to Europe next week...etc". As if they are travelling to some far distant land!!
You will also note the total acceptance of white english-speaking 'foreigners' from Canada, Australia and New Zealand; and the general acceptance of the same from Western Europe. Eastern Europeans are not [...]

We are realist.

Anonymous chris conway Fri, Oct 23 2009 16:15 CET

I agree whole heartedly with these comments. I do not consider myself racist but even so I did vote for the BNP. If there were hundreds of thousands of white, English speaking people trying to get into the country you would still have to reach a point where you have to realise that we are extremely overcrowded and this country has limited resorces. There is an housing crisis, the NHS is tretched to its limits and schools are failing the children because there are too many children to a class.

We have also lost "The Freedom [...]

Read the full comment of Speech". Everyone is scared to say what they really think and feel because of the consequences such as losing your job.

It is also apparent that foreigners come wiuth no sense of humour and we have to tread on eggshells.

The labour party has fuelling racism for years because they have one rule for foreigners and another rule for us and it is preferential treatment for coloureds.

It is not that long ago that we saw demonstrations by muslims who held placards whci rea "BEhead those who inult Islam". I found this shocking on the streets of Britain.

Although we see white people protesting against the BNP, I wonder where they were when London was being bomebed by muslim extremists. Nick Griffin is not responsible for killing anyone is he?

Because other politiacians are living in a bubble and refuse to recognise the problems that we face, the BNP will continue to grow. He is the voice of the poorest people in the poores areas where the resources are most depleted and ethnic minorites are given priority regarding housing and healthcare.

Anonymous Brian Fri, Oct 23 2009 14:56 CET

Diana,
you have hit the nail on the head. That is what most people think in this country. Our England as we know is slowly being taken from us by Islamic extremists.I am glad there are other sensible people out there like you.

Anonymous Robert Taggart Fri, Oct 23 2009 13:45 CET

Here here. The 'establishment'... 'metropolitan'... political class just do not 'get it'. they still refuse to accept the expenses scandal was a scandal ! They and the London media (particularly the broadcasters) are most certainly 'a breed apart'. Oneself could concievably vote BNP... if only to rub the noses of the 'metro' types in it !

Anonymous Diane Fri, Oct 23 2009 10:24 CET

I might not agree with all BNP actions but i do understand were they come from. If you live in Britain you should take on religions and beleifs. If i go on holiday i respect other countries laws and beleifs. I dont agree that my nephews in school need to learn the Koran? What happened to the nativity? I could go on.
I some times feel i have no rights in my own country with being a white hetrosexual female.
