Journalist files complaint against Vivacom, BSP and former PM

Ekaterina Boncheva, a journalist and member of the commission for opening the dossiers of the socialist-secret services, has filed a complaint against the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and its leader and former prime minster Sergei Stanishev for invasion of privacy.

An announcement from the Commission for the Protection of Personal Data (CPPD), confirmed the complaint had been received and was accepted, Bulgarian daily Trud said.

During the election campaign for the European Parliament, Boncheva received a pre-recorded message with the voice of then-prime minister Stanishev, on her home answering machine service, urging her to vote for a socialist candidate, Trud said.

In an interview with Trud, Krassimir Dimitrov, who is a member of the CPPD, had previously said that the campaign practice of the BSP sending telephone text messages without prior consent was unacceptable.

According to Trud, this led to Boncheva filing her complaint with the CPPD. The complaint was filed against telecoms operator Vivacom for providing personal data, in this case a name and telephone number, to a third party, and against the BSP and its leader Sergei Stanishev for using this data in their campaign without prior consent.

At the next hearing of the CPPD, Vivacom (formerly the  Bulgarian Telecommunications Company) and the BSP would be heard, the CPPD said.
