A pack of vicious strays kill 15 animals in the Sofia Zoo in an unprecedented attack.

There was no risk of blackouts caused by insufficient power supply, Economy Minister Traicho Traikov told Bulgarian National Radio.
Am I the only one that wonders what a 6yr old little girl was doing out there on her own? In the same area she had already been attacked at no less!! The family of this little girl is also to blame for her death. The dogs were acting as dogs. If they were the ones that killed the little girl then they should be putdown but why kill every animal on site? If you neutered your dogs you wouldn't have such a problem to begin with. It is an easy means of population control. Take responsibility for your own [...]
Read the full comment actions and your own pets. If you cant do this then don't get a dog!! Those stray dogs were not always strays. They become strays because stupid people decide they need them but then throw them out on the street when they realize they don't. BE RESPONSIBLE!!!
your telling me that this lady is not going to get any type of punishment or legal actions against her. HER DOGS ATTACKED AND KILLED SOMEONE. How is she not responsible?!?!

It's such a tragedy! Shame on bulgarian authorities and shame on you pseudo animal (dog) rights defenders! I've heard some breed and let dogs out just to keep their number higher. They get paid a certain amount for each dog to neuter.

anti-hysteria, most people posting here arent even bulgarian. i am sick of pathetic "wannabe animal lovers" who only spout bollocks like you and do nothing. if you want them dogs alive, take them home and look after them. alternatively, if the mutt is on the street, its fair game. i am sick of those flee-infested shitbags, and i am a dog lover! as for mobsters, perfectly agreed, cull them all as well!

I wonder what kind of a teacher this 49 yr. old Bankova could be, for she is surely an idiot. Lock her up.
Remove the dogs from the populated area. Enough stupidity already. What happened to the regulation of chipping and registering dogs? When is something going to be enforced?
Just reporting tragedies, scratching our tongues with comment, pissing and moaning.
Should we hire exterminators?
All stray street dogs are dangerous. Its stupid to neuter them and kick them back to the streets to survive. Bulgaria looks like a backward country. Shoot the damn things, and dispose of them. Make your streets safe.

what an horrific death for this little girl,my god if bulgarians accept this ,you wonder how far back they are in civalisation, chidren are special arn,t they, there was that other case where that women was killed by a pack of dogs,i say kill them all before they kill you i will not walk any where without a very big stick, its the only thing they are frightened of,,, take notice of the local sheperds they always carry one
Lock this owner up and exsteminate her dogs. When the public relise they also hold responsibility by keeping such animals. Then maybe they will control these beasts that roam the streets.
What a terrible tragedy for this little girl and her family. Unfortunately, given the stray dog problem in this country, I am not really surprised that this has happened. To those who suggest to just shoot or kill these strays I would say if you want to perpetuate the image of Bulgaria as a backward country, then please by all means do the archaic, cruel thing. However, what I have found here is an abundance of complaining about a given situation, yet very few people are actually doing anything about it. Why don't you start an organization in your area [...]
Read the full comment to neuter dogs to reduce their numbers? Also, how on earth did so many strays get on the streets in the first place? People can no longer just get a dog, decide they don't want it, and turn it loose. I sincerely hope that this girl did not die in vain and that this will propel people to work with their local government to solve this terrible problem.
Hello Jake. I know what you mean about Kosovo. There were organized culls of the dogs which temporarily reduced the problem. A 20 cent bullet is far cheaper than employing dog wardens and dog pounds but then you have the health problem with dead carcasses on the streets. Is there such a thing as corporate manslaughter in Bulgaria? Because the neglect by the authorities is almost tantamount to corporate manslaughter if they had known about the problem and failed to take appropriate action.
I am an expat living in Bg and my 6 year old boy is asking to go to school on his own....absolutely no way, at night we hear them and in the morning we see them, roaming in packs starving.....why wont you do anything about it. You have a duty and are loosing people in car accidents, people in vicious dog attacks and people emigrating....soon you will have nobody to support your country. Sort it out!!!!!
SHOOT ALL THE STRAY DOGS ON SIGHT!
last night we put 2 dogs down in our kvartal in Sofia. so my suggestion to all of you is, stop moaning about the authorities and get on with it. do your duty and kill a stray!

When will BG authorities take responsibility? Imagine your daughter being attacked by stray dogs. Bulgaria has a long way to go. When I was in Kosovo, the KPS had a very simple solution to strays. At night they would go out and shoot and kill the dogs. In Sofia, it is shameful to see the multitudes of strays roaming the streets. Sometimes you would see dead dogs on the sidewalk. Bulgarians--do something about it!
I wonder how many innocent peaceful strays will be painful attacked now by sadist claiming to be "protecting" children... this story will be the talk of a BTV novinte and every village piss-hole conversation.....would these same people go around "protecting" children by tackling other dangers like cleaning up broken glass or maning traffic crossings? No of course not killing is more fun ..Bulgaria will always have a stray dog problem beacuse 80% of its population live in byzantine ignorance and poverty
Disgusting and disgraceful that this has happened but not surprising. My step daughter has told me how afraid she is in walking the streets of Sofia because of all the strays. My heart goes out to Kristiana's family for such a waste of a young life and the local authorities must also take some responsibility for allowing this shameful tragedy to happen.
This lady is responsible for these dogs and there actions. She obviously cannot cope with such a large number of animals and they should be put down. The lady in question should be charged with manslaughter and given a lengthy sentence.
No-one minds people having one or two dogs but the dogs must be trained and the owners must be able to control them. If it is evident that owners of dogs are not in control of their animals then the animals must be put down.
Stray dogs are the other problem that Bulgaria has but [...]
Read the full comment that is the responsibility of the government and this tragedy must be drawn to their attention.
Yet again a another child attacked by dogs i saw a case like this in Varna sea gardens in august the child in that case survived from the intervention of the public. These animals are wild and should be put down any person who owns dogs like this should also face the courts and sent to prison. When is Bulgaria going to take this problem serious.
People who do not keep dogs on leashes are vigilantes taking the law into their own hands. Thus they threaten society by their very existence. Citizens, therefore , need to put additional pressure on the justice system to have the vigilantes locked up and the dogs exterminated. What happened to this child was an act of terrorism perpretated by the woman who owned the dogs. Therefore she should be tried for terrostic activities not man slaughter
I have been repeatedly chased and threatened by unregulated dogs while out biking in small villages. I've had to fend off groups of two or three, or more dogs dogs with rocks. It is time for the government to do something. As soon a dog leaves a yard and enters the sidewalk or road, and starts to threaten people, it is fair game.
Not every stray dog is aggressive
- but these have been proven to be
violent. It is awful what happened to the little girl. The
dogs should be put down.
Surely it is time to start a campaign in every village, town and city in Bulgaria to solve the problem of stray and neglected dogs. They are killers and cause extreme distress to a lot of people with their constant barking. I would like to see your newspaper campaign for their removal on behalf of your readers.

i wonder what ELSE has to happen before Bulgarian auhtorities REALISE that they have to EXTERMINATE every stray dog in the country WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE!
kill them all already!
