Police seize 28kg of heroin at Turkish border

Bulgarian police seized 28.4kg of heroin, with an estimated street value of about 3.5 million leva, at the Malko Turnovo border crossing point, the regional police directorate announced, as quoted by Dnevnik daily on October 8 2009.

The drugs were discovered in a vehicle with Bulgarian registration that was attempting to enter the country from Turkey. Both men were identified as Bulgarian citizens.

After conducting a thorough search of their personal belongings as well as the entire vehicle, officers found 55 bags of "high grade heroin", the report said.

The men have been arrested and a criminal case launched.
