Roman Polanski denied bail

On Tuesday, October 6, the Swiss Justice Ministry announced that Roman Polanski will not be granted bail. Folco Galli, a spokesman for the Ministry, stated that the main reason for the denial of bail is the high risk that Polanski would again flee ahead of extradition procedures.

AMERICA is not the only legal system in the world - there are older and wiser ones elsewhere.

Anonymous Fvcknuts all! Fri, Oct 09 2009 01:41 CET

Yes, arrest a relatively benign 76 year-old filmmaker. Ignore all the arms merchants and oil tycoons doing business in your banks! Way to go, Switzerland!!!

Anonymous Me Thu, Oct 08 2009 22:45 CET

But this is AMERICA and AMERICA has laws. In other countries they can think it is OK to eat a living monkeys brain but the laws here state that you go to prision for a long time when you rape - RAPE - not have consensual sex - with a 13 year old.

Life in prison for statatory rape??? comeon now. lets ask this question, why was this girl with polanski, where was her parents. while we call men in this country who have sex with a 13 yr old, in many many other countries, 13 is an adult. Not condoning, just stating. many countries in europe, do not think this is anything all that big a deal. so, are we right, just cause this is america??? Are we the moral gods of this world???? If we say 13 is to young, that means it is, even though many countries disagree????

We can't even afford to keep all the real threats in jail here in California. Do any of you morons really think Polanski is a threat to ANY one in California? Trust me, some of the inmates that will be released, because the broke state can't afford to keep them behind bars WILL be....

I don't want to see him doing a long sentence, but he needs to accept responsibility in a court of law. All these prominent people demanding he get off because he's a great artist are simply elitists.

Jack Worthless and Clueless Jane --
Anyone who would condone the drugging and raping of a 13 year-old child, needs to have their head examined. Hope neither of you are parents. Complete morons.

Jack i was just thinking the same about you.

Perhaps there were irregularities in his trial. But his incarceration of less than two months was an inappropriate term for his level of crime.

Anonymous manson Thu, Oct 08 2009 16:35 CET

at least charles manson is doing his bird, phil spector nearly evaded justice its time this dirty little paedophile goes to jail. his farther was in a concentration camp his mother died in a death camp and they did nothing, its high time he was sent to prison for life

Anonymous Stefan Thu, Oct 08 2009 16:25 CET

Absolutely. There is no excuse for raping a 13 year old. In prison forever and preferably hung by his balls.

I wish the Swiss government will stick with it and not give by when international pressure arrives.

I hope they do not allow for this guy to ever be free again.

Watch the documentary Roman Polankski: Wanted and Desired. The girl in question, the prosecuting attorney and the defense attorney all agree that Polanski didn't get a fair trial. The prosecuting attorney says that it completely understandable that Polanksi left and he would probably do the same thing himself,,, It doesn't get more clear than that...

you sound like a loser joe. Get a life.
It was the best day in that's life.
She would have been in with a very interesting crowd, not some loser like who sits there and moralizes because they are so boring.

Anonymous Joe Thu, Oct 08 2009 13:54 CET

Good!!! They made the right decision. Polanski needs to be extradited back to the U.S. and finally man up to what he did to that poor girl and to be punished accordingly. In addition, he should receive another 10 years for fleeing plus 3 years for every year that he evaded justice as a fugitive. Lock him up and throw away the key!!!
