Cesária Évora returns to Sofia

Legendary Cape Verdean singer Cesária Évora returns to NDK's Hall 1 in Sofia this evening for a performance at 8pm.

Nicknamed the "barefoot diva" for her preference for performing without shoes, Évora's music is one the best internationally-known practitioner of "morna", a music and dance genre from Cape Verde. Morna is often compared to the blues Morna is widely considered the national music of Cape Verde, as is the fado for Portugal, the tango for Argentina and the rumba for Cuba.

"Sodade" was Evora's first international hit in 1988 and marked the beginning of worldwide fame for Évora at the age of 47.
The Portuguese term saudade is complex and infamously difficult to translate, related to homesickness, nostalgia, longing, sadness, and regret.

Évora is a particularly frequent visitor to Greece and has recorded duets with Eleftheria Arvanitaki and Dimitra Galani.
