After almost 30 years, Pakistan will once again have an ambassador to Bulgaria. This was made possible after Kausar Ahsan Iqbal presented her credentials to President Georgi Purvanov on September 24 2009, Bulgarian BTA news agency quoted an embassy statement.

Kausar Ahsan Iqbal is a law graduate from the University of Punjab in Pakistan and has had a number of diplomatic postings in her career. From 2000 to 2004 she served as Pakistan's ambassador to Algeria with two countries of co-accreditation Mali and Mauritania. She has also served in Brussels, Jakarta, Ottawa and Cairo.

Prior to her appointment in Bulgaria, Kausar Ahsan Iqbal served as deputy foreign minister at Pakistan's foreign ministry in Islamabad, a position she has held since 2007.

Pakistan closed its embassy in Sofia 30 years ago for administrative reasons.
