British singer Alice Russell to perform in Sofia

British singer Alice Russell will perform in Unversiada Hall in Sofia on October 24, a representative of Bushmills Whiskey said in a statement quoted by Dnevnik daily. The singer is poised to arrive in Bulgaria on a Bushmills Whiskey invitation, the statement says.

Russell originally hails from Framlingham in Suffolk, England, and was formerly signed to the Tru Thoughts label.

She has sung on tracks with Will Holland's Quantic and Quantic Soul Orchestra. She has also performed the lead vocals on a cover of The White Stripes' hit "Seven Nation Army" with Nostalgia 77.

Her solo work is performed in a nine-piece band called "Alice Russell Live". In July 2004, Russell delivered her debut solo album, Under The Munka Moon, for Tru Thoughts Recordings.

She is renowned for her musical style which is a fine blend of funk, melancholic soul, gospel and jazz. Russell has also worked with artists like Massive Attack which, according to some of her fans, has contributed greatly to her texture and depth in style.

Earlier collaborative efforts and new material, Under The Munka Moon, includes tracks written with Bah Samba, Kushti, Nature Boy, and Quantic, with additional production and remix work from Digitek, Atjazz, and Plaid.

Bushmills are yet to update their website with details of price and ticket availability for her show in October.
