Iran has appointed Gholam Reza Baqeri Moqaddam as its new envoy to Sofia.

Baqeri Moqaddam has been the caretaker of Iranian embassy in Ankara and served as Tehran's envoy to Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan prior to his new post in Sofia.

He has also headed the Iranian foreign ministry's second office for commonwealth states' affairs.

The appointment took place after former Iranian envoy to the country lost a yearlong battle against cancer and passed away in Sofia in April, 2008.
