A 14-year-old girl drove a BMW into a police patrol late on September 14.  Both vehicles were damaged but there were no injuries following the collision, according to a regional statement of the Pleven police department, Dnevnik reported.

The incident occurred at 10.50pm on September 14, when a police patrol spotted a BMW driving without headlights. They signalled for the car to pull over but then the driver made a sharp right turn, towards them, losing control of the vehicle, and crashed straight into the police car. The BMW then veered off and halted several metres down the road.

Luckily, the officers managed to dodge the impact and escaped unscathed, although both cars suffered "extensive damages".

The officers then discovered that the driver was a 14-year-old girl who "took mummy's car for a spin without her knowledge".

The police will issue a fine to the girl's mother "for breaching regulations, relinquishing a vehicle to an underage person and for exerted material damages".

This incident came a day after the campaign issued by the Traffic Police Department (KAT) for enhanced road safety to coincide with the new school year.
