Firefighters celebrate their national holiday

Bulgarian firefighters are celebrating their national holiday on September 14. To mark the occasion accordingly, this week  numerous demonstrations and safety procedures will be conducted around the country and in Sofia, according to a a press release from the Interior Ministry.

The firefighters call it the Week of Fire Safety, aimed to educate the general public about basic safety procedures, of which a special accent will be put towards the students.

On September 15, firefighters from the Sofia department will stage a massive scale demonstration outside the National Palace of Culture, NDK at 10.30am.

The following day they will visit and conduct drills with the children from the Patilantsi centre. More than 100 children have been selected to participate alongside the officers.

The opening of the week-long celebration will begin on September 14 at 9.30am at the cenotaph of the unknown soldier. Government officials and members of the Interior Ministry will be present at the ceremony. Following that, firefighters will pay their respects at the remembrance memorial at 10.30am to honour fellow colleagues who lost their lives in the line of duty.
