One in six Czech children is overweight

Obesity rates among the young have increased threefold since 1995 with one in six Czech children overweight or obese, and many are turning to alcohol to lessen their appetite, according to the State Health Institute.

While 8000 children in the Czech Republic were treated for obesity in 1995, the number was almost 21 000 in 2005 and 24 500 last year, said Dr. Ludmila Skálová from the State Health Institute.
