Police action ends with 11 arrests of minors admitted to nightclubs

Mobile units from the Sofia police department conducted random checks in Sofia nightclubs on Friday, August 28 and uncovered serious breaches of regulations perpetrated by proprietors and customers.

According to legislation, admission rules in bars and nightclubs state that minors cannot be allowed entry and sold alcohol, but these regulations were systematically flouted, according to an Interior Ministry press statement.

Following the operation on Friday, 11 minors, both male and female, were apprehended and detained in custody while checks were conducted on their identities and their parents summoned to collect them. The parents were also slapped with hefty fines.

As part of their explanation, the minors claimed that they did not have problems accessing the premises concerned, that no one was present at the door and no one demanded that they show ID papers.  Once inside the establishments, they had no problem purchasing alcohol and consuming it openly.

According to the police statement, both the establishments and the firms responsible for the security will be fined for breach of regulations.
