Train wreck in Romania leaves three dead

A train has collided with a car in Romania, killing three out of four people in the vehicle, Bulgaria news agency (BTA) has reported, citing Romanian media.

According to reports, the accident was caused by the driver of the car, an Italian citizen. He escaped with injuries and was hospitalised in Timishoara while the three passengers, all of them women aged from 38 to 41, have died. The driver is in a stable condition.

Following the impact, one of the train carriages caught fire, possibly from the car's fuel, but the blaze was eventually tackled by Romanian firefighters.
