Ivo Petkov, arrested on August 15 2009 outside Sofia's Chervilo night club after refusing to show his ID documents to the police and who tried to escape in his Porsche, was left behind bars by Sofia City Court on August 25 2009.

The court decided to free the other two people arrested with Petkov, his two women companions Marina Gelentsova and Iva Tsvetkova, who physically and verbally assaulted police during the arrest, according to video recordings.

Gelentsova was released on 4000 leva bail after the court concluded that she was the one attacking one of the police officers. The court concluded that there were little evidence that Tsvetkova took part in the attack on police.

The three were detained as part of police checks on cars parked outside nightclubs in Sofia. When police asked Petkov to show his ID, he refused to do so and started insulting police officers. When they tried to handcuff him, he resisted arrest and attempted to flee the scene in his car.

At that point, Gelentsova and Tsvetkova got out of the car and also insulted police officers. Gelentsova attacked a police officer and tried to pull down parts of his uniform. All three were arrested with the help of additional police officers.

Petkov is also to be charged with possession of illegal drugs after police found what was described as a green substance on him.

Petkov’s line of business and his source of income are also to be checked.
