The current ‘negative Arctic Oscillation’ – a weather phenomenon which leads to cold conditions in Europe and relatively warmer conditions in the Arctic – should shift into a more neutral pattern within the next two to three weeks.
The extreme cold has been blamed for almost 400 deaths across Europe. In Ukraine, where temperatures have fallen below minus 30 degrees Celsius, the cold is blamed for at least 122 deaths. Many of the victims were homeless.
At the end of Q3 2011, the highest government debt to GDP ratio was in Greece, at 159.1 per cent.
Not long ago some british banks (RSB, HSBC) atacked the leu (Romania's currancy) and in few day they made a few billions euro profit. The romanian people suffered including me (I had to work more to buy a car because I'm payed in lei not euros but the cars are sold in euros). So they give as a few millions per year but they take billions (including around 700 euros from me)...the brits should shut the f@ck up because they are the ones who benefit the most from Bulgaria and Romania not us.
Plus when they [...]

Did you know that Romania is importing more than 80% of its food? This is real fact. Before WW1 it was called the Barn of Europe, because it was exporting, main wheat.During communist times Romaia was also exporting food. but because the old communal farms were dismissed and land returned to its initial owners, you now have over 3000000 (yes three million)small farms that are used just to feed their owners. So all the west European companies are making a lot of profit by selling food to Romania. Nothing wrong with it, just a fact. Bon apetit!
I think this is great for Romania and Bulgaria believe my things will change for Romania and Bulgaria in the next 10-15 years.
I know this because of my Country - Spain had transformed in the last 20 years. We were like Romania. Now Romania is changing along with Bulgaria. Every bit helps.
We are investing harder in Romania (especially) and Bulgaria because we want to see our fellow friends enjoy the advantages of what the EU has to offer.

nonsense. the greatest chunk (more than 50%) of EU budget is, was and always will be agricultural subsidies. romania sees very little of that and in the previous year it actually contributed 2X more to the EU budget than it received. most agricultural subsidies go to France, but also UK and other developed nations.
nice to know whose paying for the massive quantities of obscenely luxurious cars being driven around Sofia and the Black Sea.
Very dissapointed in the way story was presented. It is journalists like this that make some people think their money is going to poor countries and UK is giving it away. Maybe it's a reflection of the journalist's own lack of understanding of how it all works.
UK and all the other countries that invest money in the EU do it for their own good. Of course it helps the overall development of the EU, but they will make these investments back. The poorer countries are opening markets now. It is not to "help" Romania, Bulgaria or any other countries. It is the payment that Britain must make towards EU and that's how it gets money back from the EU.
Petko Peterson, well said.
This is an absurd way of looking at the UK's contribution to the EU. In the long run Britain will benefit from what it now pays. Typical shit-stirring journalism from the Daily Mail.
