August 20 2009 saw the start of an internet portal at i-kat.org aimed improving access to the administrative service provided by Sofia Traffic police (KAT).

The project was worked out by KAT in co-operation with the Bulgaria Association of Victims of Road Accidents and the Technical Solutions Ltd company.

It provides useful information to people who have dealings with the Traffic Police, as well real time information on how fast the queues at Traffic Police headquarters in Durvenitsa neighborhood are moving.

Soon the website will provide a SMS notification service so that people can be informed in advance on when their turn will come. Currently one needs to be physically present at Traffic Police in order to keep a place in the queue.

As part of the project, a Wi-Fi connection has been installed at the Traffic Police waiting room. The website will also provide daily information on the number of road accidents in the country as well as a video and photo gallery of some of the most horrendous road accidents.

The website currently provides such information only for Traffic Police in Sofia but the aim is to expand it nationwide. It is only in Bulgarian.
