Bulgarian troops  to guard Kabul airport

Bulgaria will send a contingent of 210 troops to Afganistan to guard Kabul international airport, Bulgarian Government decided on August 19 2009.

Bulgaria currently has two contingents in Afganistan, but their participation ends on October 25, Bulgarian website mediapool.bg said. The new troops are set to arrive in Kabul in early October.

On August 18, Bulgaria's Defence Minister Nikolai Mladenov said Bulgarian troops would have more freedom to respond to threats if necessary.

Bulgarian troops are also deployed at Kandahar airport.
