Three arrests after police check vehicles outside Sofia nightclub

The first swoop on cars illegally parked outside Sofia’s nightclubs resulted in three arrests, the Interior Ministry said on August 15 2009.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, police checked a Porsche Carrera sports car parked outside the popular Chervilo nightclub near the Military Club.

When police asked the owner of the vehicle to present his ID, he refused to do so and started insulting police officers. When they tried to handcuff him, he resisted arrest and attempted to flee the scene with his car. According to police, he was under the influence of alcohol.

At that point two women who accompanied the Porsche's owner got out of the car and also insulted police officers. One of the women apparently attacked a police officer and tried to pull down parts of his uniform. All three were arrested with the help of additional police officers.

They have been detained for 72 hours and charged with hooliganism.  All refused blood tests for drugs and alcohol. Prosecutors said they would ask the court to extend the arrest of the three individuals after police found what was described as a green substance on a 36-year-old man.

Police said they would also check the man’s business and his source of income. The man and one of the women had criminal records, police said.

Checks on cars parked outside nightclubs were ordered by the newly appointed head of Sofia police Valentin Yordanov, at the request of Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov.

Luxury vehicles parked outside Sofia's nightclubs have persistently blocked traffic, causing obstructions and general discontent.

Thats a good start for the new goverment. Start inforcing the laws that are on the books. The police will get more respect for inforcing the laws fairly to everyone.
