The court case was not transparent, says the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry after the court barred a Bulgarian embassy official from attending
Voislav Savic speaks out in his first ever interview with Bulgarian media on the Spaska Mitrova case, which caused diplomatic row between Bulgaria and Macedonia
I don't understand a system which sends a mother of a newborn to prison, Boiko Borissov says, ahead of his meeting with Spaska Mitrova.
Spaska Mitrova, whose imprisonment caused a diplomatic row between Sofia and Skopje, was released from prison on October 8 2009.
A plan to grant 60 000 foreign citizens Bulgarian passports triggers controversy
Bozhidar Dimitrov withdraws from visit to Macedonian town of Prilep, where he had been scheduled to attend the inauguration of a military cemetery, after controversy about whether those interred there are Bulgarian or Macedonian soldiers.
While two Bulgarian presidents hold telephone calls with the Macedonian president over the Mitrova case, the owner of Focus news agency says Bulgarians should "defend the rights of Bulgarians in Macedonia in view of what we owe to generations of Bulgarians before us."
The arrest of a 23-year-old Macedonian woman with a Bulgarian passport leads to diplomatic skirmishes between Skopje and Sofia
The proactive and public policy of Boiko Borissov’s Government in defending the rights of Bulgarians abroad has been warmly welcomed by a constituency who for years has been complaining about the disregard of its embassy.
In what might be seen as an outline of Bulgaria's policy towards Macedonia, Bulgarian Minister without portfolio, responsible for Bulgarians abroad, said Mitrova case not alone, cause was Macedonian identity crisis.
The case of a 23 year old woman, sentenced to three months in jail, is threatening to become a roadblock to Macedonian EU accession, at least if the new Bulgarian Government gets its way.
Works will be reviewed by a group of judges, and winners will receive certificates and prizes.
Seven arrested, including ‘The Squirrel’ who was found in possession of 10 00 euro, Interior Ministry says. Mobile phones, computer equipment and drug paraphernalia seized.
Maximum temperatures across the country will remain mostly below zero.
The first tremor was at about 12.34am, followed by another three minutes later. Their epicentres were located between the towns of Radnevo and Topolovgrad.
There was no risk of blackouts caused by insufficient power supply, Economy Minister Traicho Traikov told Bulgarian National Radio.
"I have experienced it myself and I believe that Spaska`s case was butchered by the biased judges namely because she had the audacity to openly declare her roots."

Wrong. She got into trouble because she broke the law. Contempt of court is a criminal offense.
She denied her ex access to their baby when he had court orders to allow him. Now what would you call that? I call it contempt of court and she deserved what she got.
Nobody has the right to deny a child access to [...]
Read the full comment their parent. Who does she think she is denying this?
Unless a parent is a clear danger to the child then that child HAS THE RIGHT TO KNOW BOTH PARENTS.
How about we stop and consider the rights of a child who has no voice in all this.
So stop politicizing this and see it for what it is. A clear case of a criminal offense committed and not the first time either.

I am from Strumica, and it wasn`t utnil recently when I decided to create a more detailed family tree that I realized that I am of Bulgarian ethnicity. It is quite true that declaring this is dangerous and seems to attract unprovoked violence. I have experienced it myself and I believe that Spaska`s case was butchered by the biased judges namely because she had the audacity to openly declare her roots.
May be that`s why my father never mentioned anything about what he is and still keeps on being somewhat distracted when I raise this question. His generation [...]
Read the full comment and the one before lived in fear, but I refuse to do that. We should all be way more intelligent and tolerant in Macedonia.
My brother Atanas lives in Prilep and has been for the last 40 years. His Bulgarian identity remains his own although he says that everyone thinks he's as Macedonian as he is Bulgarian. When he comes to Sofia with his Macedonian friends we always laugh about the idiots, especially the fascists in macedonia who think we don't understand what there saying. As Zhivko (my brother) said the difference is as big as an Englishman going to America to get a DJ job, no problems the accent is actually a bit cute. Last year six of us went to Ohrid for [...]
Read the full comment a week and had the time of our lives. We met a few local guys who told us that many in Ohrid retained their Bulgarian roots but thought to keep the Macedonian veneer to keep their jobs. Two of their friends who were bus drivers lost their jobs when they were overheard talking to Bulgarian tourist guides about the amount of Bulgarians who live their. But what was funny was that when the boss told them who ratted on them it was funny because he is supposed to be the biggest anti-Bulgarian in town yet he didn't need a interpreter to relay word for word all that was told to the two guy's boss. Thats what you get when you are a little fascist pig worth nothing not even for the space you inhabit. Thankfully many of the young in Ohrid speak Bulgarian and when someone suspicious comes we always say we're joking about some of the incredible Macedonian dialects and of course the idiots believe it because they are honestly not sure anymore if their young are playing them. Well time to go to work again, will be back in Macedonia tomorrow can't wait to see those fascist pigs who think they own the world............

I am Bulgarian and have been waiting for my Bulgarian passport for years. Bozhidar Dimitrov should be more sensible than suggest all of Macedonia apply for Bulgarian passports. It clogs up the system, and these are not people whose motives would be to contribute to Bulgarian society, to live in Bulgaria and to raise their families there, but rather someone convinced them they had Bulgarian origins, and this might be a stepping stone to the EU. Bozhidar Dimitrov's appointment was enough of a controverse. He should leave this matter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. To concede, at least he's [...]
