Bozhidar Dimitrov, Bulgaria's Minister without portfolio, with a special responsibility for Bulgarians abroad, has said he was prepared to take Spaska Mitrova's place in jail, Focus news agency said.

Mitrova is at the centre of a diplomatic row that erupted in early August 2009. As a Macedonian citizen, she self-identifies as Bulgarian and holds a Bulgarian passport. She has been sentenced by the Macedonian court to three months in jail for not allowing her ex-husband to see their child, in violation of orders from relevant authorities.

Dimitrov was not the only one who was ready to take Mitrova's place in jail. Macedonian writer Mladen Surbinovski had suggested he would take her place, Focus news agency said.

"Of course, I would be ready to do that," Dimitrov was quoted by Focus as saying. "But they have to realise that I can be very convincing. After a month or two, it should not be a surprise if entire prison administration and all the prisoners apply for Bulgarian citizenship. Especially once they understand that their grandmothers and grandfathers were of Bulgarian decent," Dimitrov was quoted as saying.

"I have experienced it myself and I believe that Spaska`s case was butchered by the biased judges namely because she had the audacity to openly declare her roots."
====================

Wrong. She got into trouble because she broke the law. Contempt of court is a criminal offense.
She denied her ex access to their baby when he had court orders to allow him. Now what would you call that? I call it contempt of court and she deserved what she got.
Nobody has the right to deny a child access to [...]

Read the full comment their parent. Who does she think she is denying this?

Unless a parent is a clear danger to the child then that child HAS THE RIGHT TO KNOW BOTH PARENTS.
How about we stop and consider the rights of a child who has no voice in all this.

So stop politicizing this and see it for what it is. A clear case of a criminal offense committed and not the first time either.

I am from Strumica, and it wasn`t utnil recently when I decided to create a more detailed family tree that I realized that I am of Bulgarian ethnicity. It is quite true that declaring this is dangerous and seems to attract unprovoked violence. I have experienced it myself and I believe that Spaska`s case was butchered by the biased judges namely because she had the audacity to openly declare her roots.
May be that`s why my father never mentioned anything about what he is and still keeps on being somewhat distracted when I raise this question. His generation [...]

My brother Atanas lives in Prilep and has been for the last 40 years. His Bulgarian identity remains his own although he says that everyone thinks he's as Macedonian as he is Bulgarian. When he comes to Sofia with his Macedonian friends we always laugh about the idiots, especially the fascists in macedonia who think we don't understand what there saying. As Zhivko (my brother) said the difference is as big as an Englishman going to America to get a DJ job, no problems the accent is actually a bit cute. Last year six of us went to Ohrid for [...]

Read the full comment a week and had the time of our lives. We met a few local guys who told us that many in Ohrid retained their Bulgarian roots but thought to keep the Macedonian veneer to keep their jobs. Two of their friends who were bus drivers lost their jobs when they were overheard talking to Bulgarian tourist guides about the amount of Bulgarians who live their. But what was funny was that when the boss told them who ratted on them it was funny because he is supposed to be the biggest anti-Bulgarian in town yet he didn't need a interpreter to relay word for word all that was told to the two guy's boss. Thats what you get when you are a little fascist pig worth nothing not even for the space you inhabit. Thankfully many of the young in Ohrid speak Bulgarian and when someone suspicious comes we always say we're joking about some of the incredible Macedonian dialects and of course the idiots believe it because they are honestly not sure anymore if their young are playing them. Well time to go to work again, will be back in Macedonia tomorrow can't wait to see those fascist pigs who think they own the world............

I am Bulgarian and have been waiting for my Bulgarian passport for years. Bozhidar Dimitrov should be more sensible than suggest all of Macedonia apply for Bulgarian passports. It clogs up the system, and these are not people whose motives would be to contribute to Bulgarian society, to live in Bulgaria and to raise their families there, but rather someone convinced them they had Bulgarian origins, and this might be a stepping stone to the EU. Bozhidar Dimitrov's appointment was enough of a controverse. He should leave this matter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. To concede, at least he's [...]
