Former prime minister Sergei Stanishev has received close to 20 000 additional leva in his last salary as prime minister in July 2009, as a compensation for the leave days he did not take during the four years of his term, Bulgarian news agency Focus said on August 13 2009.

According to the law, when leaving work, employees get financial compensation for the leave days they had not taken - as is the case with Stanishev.

He also told Focus that he would live in a flat in Sofia's Boyana neighbourhood for the price of 600 euro a month. Stanishev had to move out of the state residence he lived in for the past four years after he lost the July 5 2009 elections.

Stanishev said that he had a friend who agreed to let him use the flat for the next six months.
