Bulgarian - Greek drug ring busted

Wed, Aug 12 2009 14:09 CET 2115 Views
Greek police have busted a Bulgarian-Greek drug trafficking ring, Focus news agency quoted Greek newspapers as saying.

The organisation allegedly imported large amounts of cocaine from Columbia.

Five people, all Bulgarian and Greek nationals, had been arrested. More arrests were expected to follow.

Allegedly, the organisation used a cargo ship to traffic 500 kg of cocaine, while the documentation said the ship transported iron. The ship arrived in the port of Piraeus, after it had been followed via satellite by anti-drugs services in the US. US authorities tipped off the Greek police, which raided the ship and confiscated the cocaine.

The drugs were thought to have been destined for the Greek and European markets.
