The manager of the Beautiful Bulgaria project, Stanimir Kolev has been fired and replaced by architect Valeria Botev, Bulgaria's Labour and Social Policy Minister Totyu Mladenov said.

The Prosecutor's office would review all projects under the Beautiful Bulgaria project, Bulgarian daily Dnevnik said.

The budget for Beautiful Bulgaria for 2009 was 66 million leva. Almost the entire amount had been earmarked, while 24 million had already been paid out, Dnevnik said.

In early 2009, the outgoing Government allocated an additional 15 million leva for the repair and construction of buildings. At the end of her mandate, outgoing social minister Emilia Maslarova said the project had created 14 000 jobs.

So far, the project had not been checked, despite sporadic reports of abuse, Dnevnik said.

Prosecutors will also investigate other deals of the ministry, Mladenov said. As an example he gave the Centre for Social Services in Stara Zagora, where numerous violations had been found. Just for door-signage, 35 000 leva had been allocated, Mladenov said.

The contract for the repair of the centre was won by Stara Zagora 2007, a company allegedly related to the partner of Maslarova. The contract for the door signage was signed only days before Maslarova left office, Dnevnik said.

The centre was renovated for 19 million leva, or 2700 leva a sq m.
