Regional Minister Rossen Plevneliev has ordered that the reconstruction and refurbishment works on the Vladaya be terminated because the parameters of the contract had been altered – prices were increased and procedures and other measures were not implemented and kept as required, Investor.bg reported.

Plevneliev said that given the current circumstances, it now a priority that resources and energy be allocated towards the completion of the Lyulin motorway project, and that work on the Vladaya pass will be relegated in importance and work on it halted indefinitely.

"We will not release the Hainboaz pass until we are certain that the road infrastructure is in sound and reliable condition," he was quoted as saying by Dnes.bg

Furthermore, Plevneliev was quoted as saying that it was "a common practice for the National Road Infrastructure Agency NRIA to allow for projects to be put in exploitation before they were actually completed and deemed safe".

By the end of 2009 a tender will select the firm to be entrusted with construction on the Trakia motorway, as the buildings works are scheduled to commence by April 2010.

Finally, Plevneliev said that, to date, 82 per cent of the road infrastructure budget had been spent since he assumed office.
