Bulgarian astronomers who participated in the 'specialised Yundola expedition' from the "Stellar Society - A79" observatory, have discovered seven new asteroids, 16 km northwest of the southern town of Velingrad, the Bulgarian news agency was quoted as saying on August 5.
The celestial objects found within the Capricorn constellation, have diameters spanning from 0.7 to1.7 km. they orbit the Sun between Mars and Jupiter, and their evolution is believed to be in the range of 3.9 and 5.7 earth years.
The Minor Planet Center with the International Astronomical Union (Harvard, United States) has confirmed the asteroids and given them temporary designations.
The "Stellar Society - A79" observatory, headed by Filip Fratev, have revealed a total of 16 asteroids, in the last four years, reports say. A particularly prominent asteroid, discovered in March 2009 , was named after Bulgarian national hero Vassil Levski.
During expeditions, the Bulgarian team also observed a comet which had been seen for the first time by their American colleagues about 12 hours earlier. Confirming the find, the aforementioned comet has been designated with a name C/2009 04 /Hill/
One of the asteroids discovered by the Bulgarians, designated as 2009 OW2, has emanated from the asteroid belt near Mars and it was identified as belonging to a rare class of bodies called the Nysas family.
Seven arrested, including ‘The Squirrel’ who was found in possession of 10 00 euro, Interior Ministry says. Mobile phones, computer equipment and drug paraphernalia seized.
The first tremor was at about 12.34am, followed by another three minutes later. Their epicentres were located between the towns of Radnevo and Topolovgrad.
