A coach ferrying 30 Slovak holidaymakers to Bulgaria has crashed in Romania, with multiple injuries, Dnevnik daily has reported.

The incident occurred late on August 4 near the village of Kalimaneshti, in Transylvania, a spokesperson for the Slovak foreign ministry, Peter Stano, was quoted as saying.

There are no reported fatalities. However 12 people were injured, two of them seriously. Those individuals seriously injured have been admitted to the emergency ward of a Sibiu hospital.

According to reports, the collision was caused by a lorry which swerved into the opposite lane. In an attempt to prevent a headlong collision the coach driver made a swift left turn into an adjacent field, but the rear end of the coach was hit by the incoming lorry from the side.

Two of the Slovaks have been hospitalised, two others are contemplating returning to Slovakia. The others are waiting for another bus to ferry them over to Bulgaria.
