Levski Sofia are about to complete their first overseas transfer of the summer, as negotiations between the German side FC Koln the Bulgarian champions reach their final phase concerning the sale of right-back Zhivko Milanov, Dnevnik daily said, quoting sources familiar with the matter.

It is expected that the deal will be completed after the second leg of Levski's Champions League third qualifying round tie against FK Baku. The match will be played in Sofia on August 5.

According to Dnevnik, Milanov apparently was the second choice for the German side, who had apparently made a bid for Litex Lovech right-back Stanislav Manolev, only to have their offer rejected. Litex were reported to have rebuffed an approach from Aston Villa as well, selling Manolev to PSV Eindhoven for a fee estimated at three million euro.

Over the current World Cup qualifying campaign, Milanov lost his place on the right of the back four in the national team to Manolev, but was used as a left-back instead.

Italian side Chievo were reported to be interested in the Levski Sofia defender in June, but  their offer was refused by the Blues out of hand. Chievo's attempt to get the Bulgarian on loan was also rejected.

According to Dnevnik, the Cologne-based club were now in pole position to sign the player.
