Petko Sertov, head of Bulgaria's State Agency for National Security (SANS) handed in his resignation, Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) said, quoting sources that requested anonymity.

It was not clear yet, whether his resignation would be accepted, BNR said.

Spokesperson for SANS, Zoya Dimitrova, denied that Sertov had handed in his resignation, though she did confirm he had a meeting with Prime Minister Boiko Borissov, Bulgarian broadcaster Vesti said.

The two had discussed SANS's half-year report, Dimitrova said.

Blue Coaltion leader and head of the SANS control committee in Parliament, Ivan Kostov had said that Sertov had been refused a work-trip to the US because the American partners were said to have lost faith in Sertov.

"If Kostov knew the facts around this case, I am confident he would change his opinion," Dimitrova was quoted by Vesti as saying.

"Sertov had been refused a work-trip to the US because the American partners were said to have lost faith in Sertov."

That sounds like a wink wink from Washington to replace him.
I hope BG doesn't get American style security at its borders and airports, with the new guy, although probably not likely because we lack the militaristic mentality.

Regardless what city you go to, but when one enters the US, the first thing one sees is a giant US flag, then ropes, lines, cops!
A hundred yelling [...]

Read the full comment fatties in uniforms with obvious zeal and pride in their mission.
Very scary.
I love it that we are not like that!
All one sees in BG is a few losers checking the passports, who would obviously rather be anyplace else, but there!
I love that!
That's what a free country looks like!
