Organised crime units in Plovdiv, in central Bulgaria, have arrested a member of the border police in that city on accusations of requesting a bribe, Plovdiv police said.

Police acted on a tip-off from an importer of Chinese goods, who alleged the police officer had requested a 200 leva bribe when inspecting imported goods, Bulgarian website mediapool.bg said.

Allegedly, the police officer had requested the bribe so inspections would go "without problems," mediapool.bg quoted Plovdiv police as saying.

During arrest, the 37-year old border police had four banknotes of 50 leva on him. He has been placed under arrested for 24 hours.
