Champions League qualifying - FK Baku vs Levski Sofia

Levski Sofia players celebrate with the trophy after winning the Bulgarian league title at their Georgi Asparouhov stadium in June 2009.

Bulgarian football champions Levski Sofia are in Baku, Azerbaijan, for their first leg encounter of the third qualifying round of the Champions League. The match will be played on July 28, 6pm Bulgarian time.

This will be the first official challenge for Ratko Dostanic, who was appointed Levski's new head coach just before the tie, following the sacking of Emil Velev.

Daniel Ortega, who was signed from Slavia Sofia last week, is expected to make his debut for Levski Sofia against FK Baku, while the Brazilian Joaozinho is certain to miss the clash due to an injury to his left knee. Meanwhile, Moroccan defender Youssef Rabeh,  who was nursing an injury, has fully recovered and reportedly is ready for the match.

"I know what this game means for the club and supporters," said Dostanic at the Sofia international airport prior to the team's departure for Azerbaijan, as quoted by Focus news.

"Time is never enough before such important games, but I do believe that we have prepared ourselves well for the encounter. There is a passion, a desire amongst the players to win, the morale is great and the spirit in the last few days has been excellent," he said.
