Formula 1: Hamilton wins Hungarian Grand Prix

Medical staff lift Ferrari Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa of Brazil into an ambulance after he crashed during the qualification session for the Hungarian F1 Grand Prix at the Hungaroring circuit near Budapest, July 25 2009.

World champion Lewis Hamilton won his first race of 2009 after a convincing victory in Budapest on July 26 2009. In his revitalised McLaren, Hamilton came home more than 10 seconds clear of Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen, the F1 official web site said, quoted by Bulgarian news agency Focus.

Mark Webber took third for Red Bull. Hamilton seized the lead after pole man Fernando Alonso retired when a wheel came loose on his Renault. From there on the British driver never looked back.

The event was overshadowed by the absence of Felipe Massa, CNN said.

Brazilian Massa was reported by doctors to be still in a life-threatening condition on July 26 after surgery on multiple skull fractures sustained during a crash during the qualifying round in Budapest the previous day. Massa was hit on the helmet by a spring that came off Rubens Barrichello's Brawn GP car.

Ferrari driver Massa would be kept sedated until July 27 but would be woken periodically, doctors said.

Formula 1 is to conduct an investigation into the accident, the BBC said.

The probe will attempt to discover the causes of the incident and whether any changes are required to improve safety.

When everything goes well, we take it for granted. Lets hope this tragic event has a happy ending and an inquiry will prevent similar things happening in the future. Get well soon!
