Police officers have detained a 47-year-old Greek national in Plovdiv, who was in possession of a bag which contained in excess of 50 000 euro, Focus news agency said on July 24.

The foreign national was arrested early in the morning of July 24 and according to the police report was in a state of ‘apparent intoxication’.

The inebriated man was then taken to the police precinct where he was subjected to an identity check. The official police statement has confirmed that he was in possession of a bag with large amount of euro, but did not confirm whether the money was counterfeit or not.

"The notes are being counted and examined by police inspectors" the statement said.

Focus said that the man stumbled on one of Plovdiv's central streets and spilled the money, after which a nearby police officer called in the precinct and the Greek consulate.
