Bulgarian league runners-up CSKA Sofia have drawn Irish side Derry City in the Europa League third qualifying round. The Bulgarians will entertain the Irish at home in the first leg of the encounter at the Vassil Levski national stadium on August 6.

Derry City won against Latvian opponents Skonto Riga at home by the slimmest of margins, 1-0, which was enough to propel the Irish forward with a 2-1 aggregate score over the two legs of the tie.

Derry City are fourth in their domestic league, with 10 wins, four draws and five defeats, with a goal difference of 25-13. For CSKA, the match in Sofia will be their first competitive game in the new season.

The off-season friendlies for CSKA Sofia have been rather indecisive: in its latest match, the team drew 1-1 against the obscure Azerbaijani side Inter Baku, in which the Bulgarians went ahead with a Rui Miguel goal after a collective Inter Baku defensive error. CSKA were unable to hold on to the marginal lead however, as their opponents equalised towards the end of the match.
