Phew! What a scorcher – Bulgaria's emergency situations ministry issues heatwave warning

MES: Achtung - Heatwave!

The Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) has announced that a severe heatwave will hit Bulgaria on July 24 and 25, with temperatures in places of more than 43C.

The average maximum temperatures for the country will be 35C while average lows will be in the 20s.

"Daytime temperatures are likely to record-high levels, the Emergency Situations Ministry said in a warning on July 23, something which was already announced by several television channels as early as July 21.

Meanwhile, the Bulgarian Traffic Police department has announced that because of the extremely high temperatures, lorries that are more than 20 tons in weight will be diverted from travelling along the Rousse – Byala, Rousse – Razgrad and Rousse – Silistra sections. Incidentally, some of the highest temperatures are expected to hit the north-eastern city of Rousse.

Traffic police said that all lorries will be halted until temperatures subside to less than 35C.

The good news is that the weather will be calm, and visibility will be next to perfect. Conditions for sea tourism and mountaineering should be ideal, but common sense is essential – hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, and wear lots of sunscreen.

It is really a pity that we loose this important Ministry!
Let's hope the people will find a good job elsewhere! May be the Institute for Metereology has some vancancies.
