Russian woman and daughter contract swine flu in Bulgaria

A Russian tourist and her daughter who had spent the holidays in Bulgaria and then returned to Moscow were identified as H1N1 carriers shortly after arrival, Bulgarian National Radio said.

The woman and her three-year-old daughter were confirmed as infected, but Russian authorities have refused to disclose any more precise information about where they spent their holiday. Reportedly, the woman and child returned to Moscow last week, and displayed the symptoms "sometime later" and were subsequently told they were carriers after a medical examination on July 21.

With the latest two cases, the H1N1 toll in Russia has now reached 12 affected.

"All of the infected have been taken care of, are under treatment and their lives are not under threat" an official statement said, quoted by Mediapool.

According to Russian health secretary Gennadiy Anishchenko, there is no immediate threat of a pandemic, and the situation is under control. Should there be an escalation of cases, however, the Russian government is contemplating postponing the start of the school year.
