Bulgaria issues warning against travel to Indonesia

Ritz-Carlton hotel guests leave after bombs exploded in the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels in Jakarta, July 17 2009.

Bulgarians planning to travel to or through Indonesia should cancel or change their itineraries, the Foreign Ministry in Sofia said on July 17 2009, in a warning issued after terrorist suicide bomber attacks on two luxury hotels in the capital city Jakarta.

Bulgarians currently in Indonesia should leave, and if they chose not to do so, they should provide contact details to the Bulgarian embassy in Jakarta, the Foreign Ministry said.

International news agencies said that the attacks left at least nine people dead about more than 50 injured.

The attacks have brought widespread condemnation, with United States president Barack Obama.

"The American people stand by the Indonesian people in this difficult time and the US government stands ready to help the Indonesian government respond to and recover from these outrageous attacks," Obama said. "These attacks make it clear that extremists remain committed to murdering innocent men, women and children of any faith in all countries," he said.
