On the first day of the 41st Bulgarian Parliament's term, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, floor leader of the Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria (abbreviated as GERB in Bulgarian), the party that won the largest share of votes at the elections, said that his party would work to restore Bulgarians' trust in the country's judiciary and legislation.

Any attempt to circumvent the laws wpuld be punished, he said, emphasising that no one would enjoy political protection when committing a crime. GERB's mission would be to prove that parties and personalities can assuage society's problems, Tsvetanov said.

"We don't just need new faces in politics but, rather, better resolutions to the problems of our nation and society," he said. "Today we turn a new page in Bulgaria's history. Just a few days ago more than two million Bulgarians asked for a more transparent governance of the state."

"We need to continue Bulgaria's path towards European Union integration and restore the trust of EU's institutions in us." To do that Bulgaria needed to update the frame of the state budget in accordance with developments in the economic crisis. Other measures were bringing down the number of Parliament's committees and the level of administration.

"We have to serve as an example to Bulgarians," he said.

"GERB won 116 seats which, in a 240-seat Parliament, is not enough for a stable majority. What we will offer is a political project for the European development of Bulgaria which everyone is welcome to support except for the parties who have been in the outgoing ruling coalition," he said.

Tsvetanov referred to the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms.

"We will start talks with other centre-right parties but this will not be talks on forming a coalition based on bargaining about cabinet seats but, rather, talks about political support based on principles and priorities," Tsvetanov said.

Soon GERB was going to put forward a memorandum for political support to the new Cabinet which GERB leader, Sofia mayor Boiko Borissov, is expected to form by July 27 2009.

Until then, the outgoing Cabinet of Bulgarian Socialist Party leader Sergei Stanishev will continue with its duties, although it formally filed its resignation before Parliament on July 14 2009.

Borissov already said that Tsvetanov will be take the post of Interior Minister which means that GERB will have a new floor leader in two weeks.

Agreed, but if you want to show the EU a commitment to diversity and tolerance, don't go near Ataka and please start integrating people of Turkish ethnic descent into your party and in *that* way help dismantle MRF. Please!!
