Another swine flu case imported from the United Kingdom

Authorities in Veliko Turnovo, the medieval capital of Bulgaria, have confirmed a second case of the H1N1 strain in a 14-year-old boy, the regional health inspectorate has said, as quoted by Dnevnik daily.

The boy, a local of Veliko Turnovo, had returned from the UK on July 1, and displayed typical swine flu virus symptoms on the following day. The boy was subsequently subjected to a medical examination and was confirmed as a carrier on July 7.

Due to the mild stage of his condition, however, he has been allowed to remain at home, whilst still under isolation, with only his mother being granted access to the teenager.

Last month in the region the first case of swine flu was confirmed in the country by a youth from Pavlikeni who is belived to have caught the virus in the United States where he attended college.

Authorities are conducting tests with 20 other individuals in north central Bulgaria who are suspected to be potential carriers of the strain. With the latest news, the total number of cases in the country has risen to 14.
