Manchester United sign French winger Gabriel Obertan

Gabriel Obertan has arrived at Old Trafford from Bordeaux on a four-year contract, putting pen to paper in what is Alex Ferguson's third signing of the summer, the club's website has reported.

The 20-year-old player has committed himself to the Red Devils until June 2013, and Ferguson is confident that the young player has a bright future ahead of him at the club, given his age and versatility.

It was rumoured that Obertan was likely to move south to London and join Arsene Wenger at  Arsenal instead. There were also reports that he might be headed for Italy, with both Inter Milan and AC Milan expressing interest..

"Gabriel is a player we have tracked for a few years now," Ferguson told the club's website.

"But because of his educational programme our efforts to get him have been delayed. We are delighted to get him now as he is an exciting prospect."

Meanwhile, United have confirmed that Ben Foster has also agreed terms on a new contract extension, committing himself to United until 2013.

The United goalkeeper, who arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2005, said he was delighted to have his contract extended.

"I’m really happy to commit my future to the club," he told ManUtd.com.

"The team spirit here is fantastic and working alongside Edwin and Tomasz has been a great influence on my career."

I think the plan of Alex Ferguson is to bring in young players with potential talent, to turn them into experienced talented players like Ronaldo. Because Ronaldo is gone Man Utd need all the talent they can get.
