Levski Sofia close to signing former Middlesbrough player Joseph-Desire Job

Job, in action against Liverpool while playing for Middlesbrough

Cameroon international Joseph-Desire Job arrived in Sofia on July 7 to negotiate details of a possible transfer to Bulgarian champions Levski Sofia. The 31-year-old striker was reported to already have an initial agreement with the Blues. Job is currently a free agent and would join Gerena without a transfer fee. "I am not here to past tests, I am here to negotiate with Levski," he said, quoted by website sportal.bg. "We already had a conversation, but that was over the phone, so I am hoping we can resolve it now."

The French-born footballer and Cameroon international is arguably best known for his stint with English Premiership side Middlesbrough.

Bryan Robson signed Job in 2000 for three million pounds for Middlesbrough, with the Cameroonian player netting 19 goals in 94 appearances. After struggling to hold down a regular place in the team, he was sent on loan to French Ligue 1 club FC Metz in December, 2001 until the end of the season.

Subsequently, Job returned to Boro, scoring the second goal in a 3–0 UEFA Cup Group E win over Serbian club FK Partizan at the Riverside Stadium on December 15, with Boro qualifying as group winners, for the knockout stages.

He was offloaded again in the 2005-06 season, this time to Saudi Arabia on 31 August 2005, where he played for Al-Ittihad on a season-long loan. He helped the club win the AFC Champions League in 2005, scoring in the second leg of the final against United Arab Emirates club, Al Ain FC on 5 November.

Job conducted his first training session with Levski Sofia on June 8. In an interview for Sportal.bg, Job said that he came because of French player Cedric Bardon who also plays for Levski Sofia, and a personal friend of his who has "helped facilitate the contact between him and the club".

"He told me of Levski's high ambitions and subsequently I was contacted by the club, and we had a conversation over the phone".

"We are yet to negotiate the financial terms, and I like the prospect of playing in the Champions League," he said.
