Just before 25 minutes to midnight on Bulgaria's parliamentary election day, July 5 2009, Prime Minister and leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party-dominated Coalition for Bulgaria, Sergei Stanishev, conceded election victory to Boiko Borissov's GERB party.

Stanishev praised his government's record in taking on difficult tasks and achieving economic and social reforms.

He said that Bulgarian voters had turned out in large numbers, to reject vote-buying and the "corporate vote" - pressure by employers on their employees to support certain parties.

He urged the next government to enter into dialogue with business and trade unions to come up with solutions to the economic crisis.
