In a first reaction to election results on July 5, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, leader of Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria (abbreviated in Bulgarian as GERB), said "Bulgaria has changed today".

Bulgaria would become a "worthy European Union member," he said.

Tsvetanov said the election results meant the end of the current tripartite coalition.

According to Tsetanov, Bulgaria would have a strong centre-right government, although he refused to specify with which parties GERB would seek to form a coalition.
