Ivaylo Drazhev, who runs as a election candidate for parliament in the Bulgarian Black Sea town of Bourgas, asked the Regional Election Commission (REC) to halt elections in the city.

Drazhev, who runs for the Union of Bulgarian Patriots party, said he had been refused his rights to a polling station representative.

Drazhev had registered Zlatomir Ivanov, also known as Baretata, as his polling station representative, but the Sofia City Court (SCC) refused to release Ivanov, who is under arrest for leading an organised crime group and alleged involvement in several murders.

Evgeni Mosinov, spokesperson for the REC in Bourgas, said Drazhev's claim was unfounded. According to Mosinov, the REC had accepted the registration of Ivanov as polling station representative, but the SCC had simply refused to release Ivanov.
