Manchester United sign Valencia from Wigan Athletic

English champions Manchester United have brought Wigan Athletic winger Antonio Valencia to Old Trafford on a four-year deal, the club's official website has reported on June 30. The transfer fee, however, is undisclosed.

Valencia,  a 23-year-old Ecuador international, is the first player brought to the ranks of the Red Devils after the reigning champions parted ways with Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Antonio is a player we have admired for some time now, having spent the last two years in the Premier League with Wigan," said Ferguson, quoted by manutd.com.

According to the BBC, Valencia's transfer fee has cost United as much as 16 million pounds sterling. .

"I am sure his pace and ability will make a significant contribution to the team," added Ferguson.

On Sunday, in a show of defiance, Wayne Rooney promised United supporters that he will be capable of filling the void left by Ronaldo and Carloz Tevez. Rooney is confident he can step up and deliver the goals that United needs in order for them to defend their crown in next season's campaign.

"We’ve lost two key players and obviously I hope we can get a few players in," Rooney told The Times. "Between them, Cristiano and Carlos scored a lot of goals for us last season and the season before, but I would like to think I’m capable of filling that gap."

I think Fugie made a mistake to let Tevez go when Ronald went. We need a player who works harder than Babatove who just waits to be given the ball and stops running as soon as he looses the ball. He is lazy. Man U needs strong guys like Rooney and Tevez who can look for the ball.

Well I am a manchester united fan but to me this was not a great signing valencia. does not score that many goals and we need a player who can score goals for us and help wayne because wayne can't carry the team on his own. Now that are two best fowards left their no players out their who can replace tevez and ronaldo. Manchester did a big mistake to sale ronaldo and now that tevez is leaving united only Have one good striker.

i think rooney is a bit right and a bit wrong. i have no doubt that he will be able to fill tevez's boots but Ronaldo's. i dont think so. dont get me wrong rooney is a fantastic pplayer but ronaldo just has that magic which can change games and im just not sure if rooney is capable of producing the same magic that ronaldo can.
