Formula One: Sebastian Vettel wins a crushing victory at Silverstone

MAKING A SPLASH: British F1 Grand Prix winner Red Bull Formula One driver Sebastian Vettel, left, of Germany sprays champagne on third-placed Brawn GP driver Rubens Barrichello of Brazil on the podium at Silverstone, central England, June 21 2009.

As expected, Red Bull-Renault's German driver Sebastian Vettel won the third GP win in his career on June 21 2009, grabbing the victory at the British GP at Silverstone track. What many analysts did not expect however was the total supremacy Vettel and his car had over their competitors.

From start to finish, no one could challenge Vettel’s lead. He started on pole position and kept his lead to the end.

Throughout the race, Vettel and his mechanics had only one thing to worry about - the condition of his tyres and engine.

This was why, after gaining more than 20 seconds ahead of the second driver Rubens Barrichello from Brawn GP, Vettel was ordered to slow down.

Fortunately, both did well and he grabbed the win followed by team-mate Mark Webber and Barrichello.

Webber was first forced to chase Barrichelo but after the first pit stops both changed place which gave Red Bull a one-two victory at Silverstone.

Felipe Massa with Ferrari came fourth, followed by Nico Rosberg with Williams.

Championship leader and Barrichelo’s teammate Jenson Button managed to win some points by finished sixth after struggling with his car’s steering during the race.

Seventh was Toyota's Jarno Trulli with Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen grabbing the final points position.

Reigning champion and last year’s winner Lewis Hamilton from McLaren-Mercedes was 16th.

In the overall standings, Button still holds the lead with 64 points. Second is Barrichelo with 41, followed by Vettel with 39 and Webber with 35.5 points.
