Liverpool to sign Glen Johnson from Pompey

Glen Johnson

Liverpool have reportedly made an 18.5 million pounds sterling bid for Pompey defender Glen Johnson which was accepted by Pompey, the UK Times has reported.

During the winter transfer window in January 2009, Liverpool would have landed the player for less than half that price, but at the time, the Merseysiders were unable to afford his 8.5 million pounds price tag, the Times says. According to the Liverpool Echo, Chelsea and Manchester City were also competing for the services of the  24-year-old, but Johnson had indicated that should he leave Pompey, his choice would be Anfield.

Reports on June 16 revealed that Liverpool were aiming to sell Alvaro Arbeloa to Real Madrid for eight million pounds and send Andrea Dossena back to Italy.

The Merseysiders will help finance the deal with money due to arrive from the sale of Peter Crouch to Portsmouth for 11 million pounds sterling in the summer of 2008.

Glen johnson is a quality player and people are saying get Villa but even if get Villa does not mean we will win the league title at all. you have to strenghen your squad witch what he is doing by buying Glen. then you go after another player from there. you could even play Glen Johnson right wing becuase he can take on a player with out a doute
